Nancy
Place Stanislas, Nancy
 

La Meurthe-et-Moselle

Nancy :
Ancient capitale of Lorraine’s dukes, Nancy is symbolized with its Place Stanislas (second half of the 18th century). But you should also discover the ducal palace (16th century ; restored), the Cordeliers church (15th century), the House of Adam (first half of the 18th century), as well as many museums respectively devoted to Lorraine’s historical (inside the ducal palace), Nancy school (regional furnitures), fine Arts, and Iron.

Lorraine is also famous for its Baccarat glassworks.

Do not miss the Basse-Vosges forest ; the castles of Craon, Thorey, Lyautey, Cons-la-Grandville, Preny (ruins 13th century), Jaulny (restored) ; the churches of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port (gothic), Ecrouves (12th -13th centuries) ; the Sèvres glassworks at Vannes-le-Chastel.

 

La Meuse

Bar-le-Duc :
With the Saint-Etienne church, its city of High Renaissance and the Horloge tower, Bar-le-Duc houses the natural sciences museum.

Do not miss Commercy (Production of "Madeleines" cakes) ; Montmédy (Citadel of Charles Quint reshaped by Vauban) ; Verdun ; Therville-sur-Meuse (the bishop’s palace, the war museum, the Princerie’s museum and the Chaussée tower).

Other sites should be visited as Avioth (gothic basilica and its preacher choir with Charles Quint arms), the Battlefield of Verdun with the cimetary of Douaumont, and Montfaucon (the american commemorative monument with a tower of 58 meters high).

 

La Moselle

Metz :
The principles monuments of Metz are built up with the yellow stone of Jaumont as the Saint-Etienne cathedrale (13Ith -16th centuries). The place of Armes forms a great architectural and monumental whole of the 18th century, with the Town Hall and the ancient guardroom. The Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains church of the 4th century is one of the oldest of France.

You should also discover Bitche (museum - fortifications of Vauban) ; Lemberg (Glassworks) ; Phalsbourg (Erckmann-Chatrian museum) ; Sarreguemines (crockery) ; Sollac (archeology and crockery museum, the Puces tower)

Sites you ought to see are the natural and regional park of Lorraine ; the natural and regional park of North Vosges ; the Maginot line (French border defences) ; the castles of Sierck-les-Bains, Grange (at Marom), Falkestein.

 

Les Vosges

Épinal :
Famous for its images in scolar books, Épinal houses an imagery museum. You can visit  the Saint-Maurice basilica (11th-14th centuries) near Place of Vosges and the public library, settled into the Roman House. Have a walk in the castle park (around the ancient ruins).

Other sites you should see are Mirecourt (Lutery) ; spas of Plombières, Contrexéville, Vittel.

Do not miss the house of Jeanne d'Arc at Domrémy; Château-sur-Moselle (its Burgundian fortress) ; Schlucht ; Chamagne (Gallo-Roman vestiges).
