With
Alsace, Lorraine has constitute a symbol of reconquest for France.
Communication axe between Lyon and Cologne (Germany), the valley of the Moselle River was
also invaded by barbarians. Charlemagne settled there, and patronized the creation of a
local aristocraty.
Stanislas Leczinski, stepfather of king Louis XV and king of Poland (Place Stanislas at
Nancy) lived, here, in his castle of Commercy.
Annexed to Germany in 1870 and devasted during the First World War (battle of Verdun),
Lorraine continued its booming with its mining industries.It's also a spa area (Vosges)
with Plombières, Vittel, Bains-les-Bains, Contrexéville. |
