After
a Celt-Iberian period, the region was under the Roman domination (Diocletien) with the
foundation of Augustoritum (Limoges).
Saint-Eloi founded the monastery of Solignac.
Then the region was linked up to England kingdom, after the wedding Aliénor of Aquitaine
with Henri II Plantagenêt, king of England.
The region has been formed since the Revolution with the departments of Creuse, Corrèze
and Haute-Vienne.
