Including Languedoc and Roussillon, as well as Cévennes and Gévaudan, the region's name comes from "Langue d'Oc" (Language of Oc) spoken in the South of the Loire River.Enriched with the Celtic, Phenician, Roman and Arabian influences, the region lived the tragical episode of the crusade against the Cathars. It remains from this period the ruins and the ramparts of many Cathar fortresses. |
