Located in Eastern France, Franche-Comté consists of 4 counties (départements): 

  • Doubs (Besançon), 

  • Jura (Vesoul), 

  • Haute-Saône (Lons-le-Saulnier),

  • and Territoire de Belfort.

Bordered by the French regions of Alsace, Champagne Ardenne, Burgundy and Rhône-Alpes, it shares a 140 miles (230 km) frontier with Switzerland.

Franche-Comté is known as the land of water, forests and mountains.
